RE-SHOOT
RE-SHOOT is a VR arcade shooter which was the precursor to PaperClips in which we, Metaphoric Games, developed later on in the year. It is a fast paced, lighthearted shooter experience in which you progress through randomly selected themed stages. You will need to complete the stage whilst under the constraint of amount of bullets, time or both. Failing to complete a stage results in losing a life, once all life's are depleted it's game over.

The main inspirations for this game were Point Blank and Wario-ware. We wanted to encapsulate the fun frantic limited time gameplay that made these games popular and a huge success, and updating it for a VR audience. We updated this style of game by adding in full 360 gameplay so players need to be on their toes from every angle.
Below I will detail the main features and design of RE-SHOOT which would then form the basis of PaperClips
Design Pillars

Can Granny Play? - Keep it simple (stupid) one interaction one button, can anyone understand and play.

What Would Homer Do? - When thinking about making a stage, ask yourself what would Homer Simpson do?

Short Sharp Fast - The stages should be short easily understood and fast with a high level of replay-ability  .
Genres and Setting
Genre: Arcade shooting
Setting: A colourful, stylized and wacky world where anything is possible, every interaction that the player does revolves around shooting a gun from shaving your beard, cutting down trees or slicing a sandwich.
As each stage in a “Run” will be no longer than 30 seconds, we know that it’s important to create a balance between:
Having short and snappy gameplay which doesn’t overstay its welcome
And
Enough content for players who want a longer play session to sink their teeth into.

This is an early alpha of the arena in which would host multiple stages in RE-SHOOT. It is the theme of a 1930 stylized cartoon haunted hotel. This arena method was later dropped for PaperClips in support of separate stylized stages.
Mechanics & Features

Gun - Every interaction the player does in RE-SHOOT uses the gun. Simply point and shoot.  The Gun doesn't have any reloading mechanics.

Ammo - The ammo for the gun depends on the stage the player is on. Ammo can range anywhere between 1 ammo to infinity. This will be clearly shown to the player at the start of the stage and will be displayed on the gun in game.

Timer - Each stage runs on a timer; a stage is always less than 30 seconds and how long the player has to complete their objective will be shown clearly at the start of each stage. Once the timer runs out the stage is complete, and the user will be show results.
Lives - The player has 3 lives to complete a run. If a stage objective is not complete then the player will lose a life. Once all 3 three lives have been lost, the player will lose the game.

Randomly Picked Stages - Each time the player starts a run the stages will be selected at random from the pool of stages, so the game feels new each time the player plays. In PaperClips this was modified so a run will consist of 1 of each stage type aside from bonus in which in will include 2 bonus stages.

Gun Customization - The player has unlocked skins that they able to use to modify the appearance of the gun.

Achievements - The player by playing the game will unlock certain achievements some of these will unlock a weapon skin for the players collection.
